| On November 1, 1980, at the age of 10, Keith Allen's life changed
dramatically and forever. It was on this day at Duck Creek in Puxico, Missouri
that Keith "fell madly in love". That day Keith's dad set him on top of the
duck blind because he was too short to see the action. "It was the look, smell,
and feel of it all.", Keith says, "and it still affects me today as much as did
then". |
| |
| Apparently it was the sound of the experience also that Keith was
smitten by because since that day he has endeavored to be as effective on a
duck call as a person can possibly be. "I'll never forget 'til the day I die
how those mallards looked when my uncle Steve would call at them. I knew then
that I wanted to be a duck caller". |
| |
| Today, Keith is more than just a duck caller, his whole life is
dedicated to calling ducks. Keith competes in and judges duck calling contests
all over the United States. For the last three years he has been a finalist at
the World Championship Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas. Though
Keith is a successful competition caller his passion is 'realism' on a duck
call and using that realism to fool and kill ducks. Keith feels there are a lot
of folks who are good duck callers but to his ear they sound like folks on a
duck call. Keith aspires to sound exactly like ducks! In fact, his professional
calling buddies have nicknamed him "The Refugeman" for his ability to sound
like a refuge-full of feeding mallards. |
